Rachel's Bed & Breakfast is happy to promote Black River Traditions.
This local outfitter, just miles from Rachel's front door, provides opportunity to wander through the beauty of our local mountains horseback. The ranch offers a variety of rides and lessons to choose from, as well as overnight boarding.
I was delighted with the service and the way they quickly put Audrey and I at ease. Audrey had a WONDERFUL time and we can't wait to return. The scenery was breathtaking. The horses are well trained and comfortable to be around. I loved the layout of the pastures and staging area nestled in a perfect little valley.
From there we made our way up into the hills... Audrey sang 'Camp Town Races' & 'Oh Give Me a Home'... The horses didn't seem to mind. We returned to the ranch just as the sun settled over the valley. As we waved good bye we captured the moon topping the edge of the trees. What a great asset to our little valley. Thank you Mark and Sharon Walls for the insight and effort to make this service available to those visiting the K Bridge area of Black River.

Sorry it's taken us so long to write. I'm not sure what else there is to say but AWESOME!!!! You guys are wonderful. When we arrived and Sharon said, "Welcome home." we were floored. It is like home because of the wonderful care you give us. We are truly blessed to have met you and found your paradise. To us it is truly home away from home.

In the hustle of summer when expansion, gardening, remodeling, and upkeep demand so much of our efforts... and the cool woods and springs compel you to steal time away from things like blogging its easy to loose track of Summer... I can't believe that Fall is beating down our back door!!! I can't wait for the colors to arrive but I'm not sure I've had enough summer fun just yet! K bridge is like a little piece of heaven... OK... more like a great big chunk! Audrey and I have had the time of our lives... Of course, Sharon has begged me to blog but it's not good to type when your wet! Mom, your right! New Hot Tub Surround
Life at Rachel’s B&B is a perpetual palette for creative endeavors! The constant goal is to develope an atmosphere where something magical is likely to occur. A quest to capture just the right view, lighting, texture, hue. An atmosphere where the senses are filled to the point of rapture, pushing out the worries or stress of life so, all that is left is the moment.
Later, when life is pressing in, there is an escape hatch. Memories of the one you love wrapped in soft sheets, their skin kissed by the soft glow of the setting sun, the fragrance of Gardenias, whispering lips in candle light, great food, friendly host.

Sure, there are times when these things occur by accident. But why leave it to chance? If it were easy, there would be no need for Fairy God Mothers!
The trick is to see the beauty before it is there. Try it. Watch your lovers face, reclined across from you, shoulders lit by glowing torches, eyes sparkling, implications flying...
I found the beauty of ancient frames, forgotten against the back wall of the garden’s shed. Then it was a simple matter of time before concept was birthed into common reality and everyone is able see the beauty of our new hot tub surround. Simple lines, soft colors, encased in natural beauty.
Jump in, the water is fine!
Clearwater Adventure
Lest you believe us to be all work and no play….. I thought I would share photos of our recent trip to Clearwater Lake. This was just before the recent heat wave so while it was fun to get wet it was not as enticing as it would have been with temperatures similar to the kind we’ve had lately. You got to LOVE summer!
Clearwater is accessible from all over the region. You can get into the top of the lake just miles from us where Black River meets the end of Funk Branch Road or if you’ve got a tube you can put in at K bridge and float all the way to Piedmont if your heart desires. We chose a scenic drive down to the sandy beach, near the marina at Piedmont, and spent the day picnicking, swimming and burying Audrey in the sand.
Dad gave Audrey a lesson in fishing at the base of the dam. I don’t think they had much luck but it was fun for Audrey to wade out and unhook dads lines from the reeds. Mom and dad caught a nap on the beach while I took approx 150 pictures of Audrey at the beach. I even took photos of her foot prints in the sand. The River Region offers nonstop photo opps. A virtual wonderland for photographers our hills help even a novice like myself get a lucky shot sometimes.
